The short answer
For the example below, charge about $70 a ticket.
That covers $1,150 in costs for 20 people and leaves $200 profit; the break-even price is $57.50. With One Ticket’s booking fee passed on, buyers pay $73 and you receive $70 a ticket.
This is an example, not a quote or an average: use your own costs in the calculator below.
The example budget
| Cost | Amount |
|---|---|
| Venue hire | $150 |
| Chef and helpers | $300 |
| Food | $35 a person ($700 for 20) |
| Total costs | $1,150 |
| People expected | 20 |
| Profit wanted | $200 |
Worked example
At $70 a ticket, what you receive and keep if fewer than 20 come:

|---|---|---|
| Half (10 people) | $700 | -$100 |
| Three quarters (15 people) | $1,050 | $75 |
| All 20 people | $1,400 | $250 |
And at the prices either side:
| Ticket price | Buyer pays | Profit at 20 people | People to break even |
|---|---|---|---|
| $60 | $62.82 | $50 | 18 people |
| $65 | $67.91 | $150 | 15 people |
| $70 | $73 | $250 | 13 people |
| $75 | $78.08 | $350 | 12 people |
| $80 | $83.17 | $450 | 10 people |
