How do I sell tickets for an online event?

The join link has to reach the people who paid, and only them, on time, every session. Connect Zoom and a meeting link is generated automatically for each session, or paste a Google Meet, Teams or any other link. It goes on the ticket and the reminder, and the recording goes out afterwards.

The short answer

On One Ticket you connect your Zoom account once, then mark the event as online. A Zoom meeting link is generated automatically for each session, so there is nothing to create in Zoom and no link to copy and paste. A series can point at one Zoom host account and every session uses it. Not on Zoom? Paste the link from Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or any other meeting service instead, and it reaches ticket holders the same way.

The join link is the ticket. It is on the buyer's ticket page and in the reminder the day before, in place of the QR code an in-person event would use. Nobody without a ticket is sent it, and people who book late still get it straight away.

Afterwards, send the recording link to everyone who booked from the event, when you are ready. In a series, one week can move online without disturbing the rest, and subscribers to a series can choose a venue or the online option and keep it.

Online Writing Workshop

Online workshop, already set up as an event you can open now. Pick a date and a venue, change what you like, and publish. Nothing is saved until you do, and you can start without an account.

  • A weekly online session
  • One ticket per person, capped at twenty
  • What they are writing, asked at checkout

Which fits your event?

Start from the one requirement that decides it.

Your main requirementStart with
A free webinar for anyone who wants itThe meeting link in a public post
A paid online class, workshop or talkTickets with Zoom connected, or any meeting link, on One Ticket
A weekly class where some people come in person and some onlineA series where subscribers pick in person or online, on One Ticket
A one-off call with five clientsA calendar invite

If anyone may join, a ticket only adds a step. A ticket is for when the link is the thing being paid for.

How it works in practice

Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are described as people use them. You need your own account with whichever you use; nothing here is a claim about their plans or limits.

In personOnline
A QR code on the ticketThe join link on the ticket
A venue on a mapA Zoom link generated automatically, or your own Meet or Teams link
The reminder the day before, with the QRThe reminder the day before, with the link
A door to check people inA link only ticket holders were sent
Nothing to send afterwardsThe recording, sent to everyone who booked

One Ticket for a recurring room

Everything below follows from one decision: a series is one object, not a list of dates.

FeatureWhat it does
Who came backAfter every session: how many came, how many had been before, who is new and who has stopped coming, by name, with an address to write to
SubscriptionsOne subscription covers every session in a series. Each night's ticket is minted ahead of time
Paid outEvery ticket is charged to your own Stripe account. A new account is paid out to your bank two days after each event, once guests have said how it went; after a first clean event it is paid out as it sells
FeesNo platform fee on the ticket price. The buyer pays a booking fee: a platform tier of 35c to $1.45 a ticket, then 1.5% of the price above $100, plus card processing. On a $25 ticket that is $1.45 all in, so the buyer pays $26.45. Free tickets cost nothing
Refund if it changesMove the date, start time or place after people have booked and every one of them can refund in full, booking fee included, until it starts, whatever your refund policy says. You are warned before you save, and everyone booked is emailed the new details
Refund requestsOn a case-by-case event the buyer asks from their ticket. You have 3 days to refund or decline; a request nobody answers goes to One Ticket support, and your payouts are held until it is settled
Guest ratingsAfter each event, ticket holders rate it: stars and a few words. From 5 ratings the average shows under your name on every event page, good or bad. Notes are for you alone, and never say who wrote them
Scam protectionEvery page is read before it can send an email, and our emails carry none of an organiser's own links or phone numbers. A new organiser's money is held until after the event, and anyone can report an event from its page
Verified tickEarned by selling here: 3 past events, 25 tickets, no chargebacks, no ignored refund requests, and an average of 4 stars once there are 10 ratings. A chargeback or an ignored request takes it away at once
Block a personBlock an address from a ticket type, for this event or every one after it. No public list, no conversation at the door
Your pageYour colours, your title font, your cover. Nobody else's event on it
ImportPaste an Eventbrite link and the title, description, date, venue and ticket types come across
Not includedA marketplace. There is no search page and no audience to sell into; the people are the ones you bring

Common questions

Do I have to use Zoom?
No. Connect Zoom to have a meeting link generated automatically for each session, or paste a link from Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or any other meeting service.
When do online attendees get the link?
On their ticket page as soon as they book, and again in the reminder the day before.
Can I send a recording afterwards?
Yes. Send the recording link from the event to everyone who booked.
Can one event be both in person and online?
In a series, subscribers can pick a venue or the online option, and a single week can move online without changing the rest.
